Message from the Director of Public Prosecutions

I am pleased to present the Annual Report 2009–2010 of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC).

The PPSC is a national organization with offices in all regions of the country. We prosecute cases in all provinces and territories, and provide high-quality legal advice to investigative agencies throughout Canada. The PPSC provides its services in a manner that is fair, impartial, and objective.

This past year, the PPSC adopted a mission and values statement that reflects the essential principles guiding our work as prosecutors and public servants. This statement helps to ensure that we all share a common understanding of what we want our organization to be, and helps to set our direction for the future.

The PPSC Executive Council has extended our four corporate priorities for 2010–2011. These corporate priorities reflect the operational nature of the PPSC’s mandate. We have made great progress in developing our operational capacity since our creation, and focusing on these priorities will assist us in the performance of our role. These priorities are:

Prosecutions represent the core function for which we are responsible and characterize our role and our relationship with our partners in the criminal justice system and with the Canadian public.

I would like to thank all PPSC staff across Canada for their continuing hard work and dedication. Through their efforts, they exemplify the very values we seek to embody as an organization.
